The Ministry of
Water Resources in collaboration with HALCROW group Ltd of UK Generation
Integrated Rural Development Consultant of Ethiopia and TAHAL Engineering and
Consulting Enterprise of Ethiopia organized consecutive review workshops which
were held in the early mid of June, 2009 in Bahar dar.
As part of the
preparation work of the project, HALCROW is undertaking the feasibility study
on about 80,000 ha of Irrigation and Drainage Schems of Megech at Robit, upper
Beles and Negeso.
On the other
hand, TAHAL and Concert Consulting Enterprise are undertaking Feasibility Study
and Detail Design of Irrigation and Drainage Schemes of Anger Dam, Ribb and
Megech. On both occasions of the review workshops, H.E Ato Adugna Jebessa,
State Minister, Ministry of Water Resources, warmly welcome and made the
opening remarks to the members of the project steering committee coordinated
from the concerned regional and federal bodies and invited experts.
In His opening
remarks, H.E Adugna asserted that the Ministry of Water Resources selected
projects included under the Eastern Nile Subsidary Action Program (ENSAP) and
the World Bank has been actively engaged in supporting the NBI and interested
to fund the study of 100,000 hectar of land and develop a portion of this
(about 20,000 hectar) in our country.
The consulting
firms submitted the draft report of their studies by presentation. Then the participants of the review workshops
made good discussions that enabled them critically examined and evaluated the
Draft Reports that could give direction to the consultants and recommendation
to the government.
